Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 6 Yukon potatoes
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the potatoes in half lengthwise. Then quarter each half lengthwise. Cut each quarter in half lengthwise to make thin wedges.
  • Rinse the potato wedges in water and place in a 1-gallon resealable plastic bag. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, stir together ½ cup olive oil, 2 teaspoons seasoning salt, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of paprika, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper.
  • Pour the seasoning mixture into the plastic bag over the potatoes, moving the potatoes around to ensure they are coated.
  • Evenly spread out the seasoned potatoes in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 30 minutes. Then using a spatula, flip the potatoes over and continue to cook for another 25 minutes until they are cooked all the way through.
  • To crisp the steak french fries even more, turn the broiler on high and broil for 3-5 minutes. Garnish with parsley or shredded parmesan cheese and serve.

Notes

  • For a crispier steak fry, cut the wedges smaller, in ¼ inch slices instead of the thicker, ½ inch slices.
  • When adding the spice mixture, I highly recommend using a basting brush. You can use your hands, but the mixture will not spread as evenly and a lot will be lost on your fingers.
  • To store leftovers, place them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  • The best way to reheat steak fries is to place them back on a cooking sheet, spray them lightly with oil, and bake in an oven, preheated to 400 degrees for 5-7 minutes until heated through and crisped back up. Microwaving them works, but the texture will be mushy.
